As part of ongoing efforts to protect the environment and address environmental challenges, the Vision Foundation for Strategic Studies held a meeting with Iraq’s Minister of Environment.
The meeting took place today, Wednesday, June 17, 2026, in Baghdad. Discussions focused on the environmental situation in the Kurdistan Region and the most pressing environmental challenges, particularly the pollution of the Tanjaro River, and the need to find fundamental and long-term solutions to this issue. The participants also stressed the importance of coordination among governmental, academic, and research institutions in addressing environmental problems.
During the meeting, Iraq’s Minister of Environment, Sarwa Abdulwahid, pledged that the ministry would utilize all available capacities to tackle environmental challenges. She noted that the environmental conditions of the Kurdistan Region have a direct impact on the environment of Iraq as a whole, emphasizing that protecting the environment in the Region serves the interests of the entire country.
For his part, the President of the Vision Foundation reaffirmed that the Foundation continues to serve environmental causes in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region through scientific research, strategic reports, and a wide range of activities. He also expressed the Foundation’s full support for any effort or project aimed at environmental protection, improvement, and sustainable development, noting that Vision has organized numerous studies, seminars, and specialized environmental activities in recent years.
