With the participation of a number of academics, intellectuals, and journalists, the Vision Foundation for Strategic Studies organized an open discussion titled "Language Policy and Planning in the Age of Globalization" on September 2, 2025. The discussion was presented by Prof. Dr. Jaafar Sheikhulislami Mukri, a linguist and professor at Carleton University in Canada.
During the discussion Prof. Dr. Jaafar Sheikhulislami Mukri addressed the threats posed by major global languages to other languages, particularly Kurdish, emphasizing the importance of preserving standard Kurdish, as well as the need to protect local dialects and prevent their marginalization.
He said, "The world is becoming more beautiful with its linguistic and cultural diversity, and we must not allow small languages to become extinct as a result of the imposition of major languages and the dominance of globalization."
The participants emphasized the need to develop a comprehensive language strategy that takes into account the cultural and linguistic specificities of the Kurdish people, and to work to spread linguistic awareness and promote Kurdish education at all levels.
