The Kurdistan Region should stay neutral and avoid Middle East tensions

4 March 2026

Due to the current instability and unrest in the Middle East, the outbreak of war between Iran, Israel, and the United States, and its negative impact on Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, it is requested that the Kurdistan Region closely monitor the situation and maintain a form of balance in its relations.
Today, Wednesday, 4/3/2026, at the Vision Foundation for Strategic Studies, a significant number of military and political experts, along with academics, gathered to discuss the current situation in the Middle East, its future, and the role of the Kurds and the Kurdistan Region in these changes. From a military perspective, possible scenarios were discussed, and all potential solutions and positive opportunities facing the Kurdistan Region and the Kurds in the region were presented.
During part of the discussion, different views and opinions were expressed regarding how to deal with this issue. The majority agreed that the Kurdish side must carefully monitor developments and prioritize the interests of the Kurdistan Region above all other interests.
Emphasis was placed on the necessity of activating the institutions of the Kurdistan Region, unifying the armed forces, reactivating the parliament, and reorganizing the internal situation of Kurdistan in order to confront any unexpected developments in the region.
