In a step aimed at deepening the understanding of national security strategy and developing a scientific vision to address internal and international changes, the Vision Foundation for Strategic Studies organized a special seminar attended by a number of military and government figures. The seminar was presented by one of Iraq’s most prominent former military officers, during which the mechanisms of formulating national strategy and the foundations of state power were thoroughly discussed.
On Thursday, May 15, 2026, Lieutenant General Dr. Mohammed Najmadin, a member of the National Security Advisory Board at the Vision Foundation, delivered a seminar titled “National Security Strategy.” He emphasized the importance of building a strategic vision to protect state interests, noting that power has always been one of the most important tools used by states to strengthen international relations and impose their political and strategic will.
During the seminar, Dr. Najmadin explained that national security is not limited to military affairs alone, but rather represents an integrated system that includes geography, economy, water resources, climate, population, and political and diplomatic capabilities.
He also addressed the unique situation of the Kurdistan Region, stating that its geography, the absence of direct water access, and its limited strategic opportunities directly influence its international relations and strategic behavior.
The seminar witnessed the participation of a significant number of senior military figures from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, along with government officials. Participants shared their views and observations on the topic and engaged in extensive discussions regarding the future of national security and regional strategic challenges.
