As part of efforts to deepen understanding of federalism in Iraq and promote a unified political discourse, the Vision Foundation for Strategic Studies organized an open discussion forum attended by members of parliament, writers, university professors, academics, and military affairs experts.
During the event, Dr. Dlawar Othman presented a research paper titled “Strengthening the Federal System and Shared Governance through Kurdish Political Discourse in Baghdad.” The study highlighted that Iraq’s current constitution contains several provisions that require revision and amendment to better respond to contemporary political realities. It also stressed the importance of unifying Kurdish political discourse across Iraq.
Participants emphasized that a unified Kurdish position in Baghdad has a direct impact on the lives of citizens. They noted that greater political cohesion among Kurdish parties would help consolidate the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people, strengthen economic and financial gains, and expand opportunities based on merit and fair representation.
With the formation of Iraq’s new government and the likelihood of renewed debates over revenues, salaries, and the federal budget in the near future, several participants proposed the establishment of a joint coordination chamber bringing together all Kurdish political parties. Such a mechanism, they argued, would help create unified positions and improve the management of future crises and political challenges.
