The strategic outlook for the Kurdistan Region and the potential for expanding its role and influence within Iraq—alongside the paths to advancing Kurdish demands and aspirations in Baghdad—were the focus of an open discussion hosted by the Vision Foundation, featuring a distinguished group of political figures and experts.
On Thursday, February 5, 2026, the Vision Foundation for Strategic Studies held a seminar titled "The Future of the Kurdish Position in Iraq." The discussion emphasized the necessity of Kurdish unity both internally and on the national Iraqi level. Experts warned that if the Kurdistan Region’s internal and foreign policies continue in their current state, it will merely prolong the status quo without achieving any real progress.
The talks highlighted how the Kurdish cause has shifted toward issues of salaries and budgets, while minimal effort has been directed toward Article 140 and the implementation of Iraqi constitutional mandates. It was stressed that to create a united front in Iraq, unity must first be achieved within the Kurdistan Region itself.
Participants concluded that building a strong Kurdistan Region requires a genuine political will for resolution. These discussions will later be compiled into a research paper intended to serve as a roadmap for strengthening the Kurdistan Region’s standing within Iraq.
