Capitalizing on research outcomes from think tanks and research centers especially studies that contribute to shaping public policies and sound decision-making along with the vital role of think tanks, formed the core agenda of a meeting held between the Iraqi Prime Minister and an elite group of heads of research and studies centers, in which the Head of Vision Foundation for Strategic Studies participated.

On Sunday, September 20, 2026, Ali Falih al-Zaidi, Prime Minister of Iraq, received a delegation comprising heads of research, studies, and think tank centers across Iraq.

During the meeting, which Adnan Osman, Head of the Vision Foundation for Strategic Studies, attended following an official invitation from the Prime Minister, discussions centered on the work and activities of research institutions and their impact across various sectors. The participants also explored ways to effectively utilize research outputs to help formulate public policies and support sound decision-making.

The Iraqi Prime Minister highlighted the crucial role played by think tanks and research institutions, reiterating government support and the need to strengthen communication channels and coordination between research centers and state bodies. Another focal point was enhancing their presence and expanding their involvement in tackling the issues and challenges facing the state and society.

Al-Zaidi emphasized the role research centers can play in offering solutions to various Iraqi issues, noting their contribution to revitalization and sustainable development. He urged openness to successful global experiences and adapting them to fit Iraq's specific conditions and requirements.

Addressing foreign policy and state strategies, the Prime Minister outlined Iraq's plans across the political, security, and economic spheres, affirming that Iraq is actively working to de-escalate regional tensions and resolve crises, driven by its duty and responsibility to support regional peace and stability.

On the economic front, al-Zaidi explained that Iraq currently faces significant economic challenges amid the fallout of regional conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Conversely, he noted that the government remains committed to supporting and advancing the private sector as a cornerstone for achieving growth and economic diversification, alongside efforts to establish a development fund, proceed with the one-million residential plot initiative, and build new cities.

At the conclusion of the meeting, several heads of research centers and think tanks presented their perspectives, insights, and recommendations regarding economic, political, and foreign relations affairs, as well as mechanisms to enhance coordination and synergy between government institutions and research centers.
